The Faulkner’s Lane Mission was started in the fall of 1949 when Mrs. Arthur Johnson held a prayer meeting and watermelon party at her home.
Mrs. Johnson and Ethel Howson made a survey of the area and found 100 unchurched people. With the help of Bro. Roberts and First Baptist, Danville, services were held and people in the area began to receive the gospel of Christ. Ethel’s husband, Clinton Howson, was the first convert.
In 1950, a small three-room house donated by Mr Jack Noyce was officially named the Faulkner Lane Mission. Worship was held in this house until the present building was constructed in 1952. The first worship service was held on December 24, 1952.
In 1960 the educational building was added to the back. The left wing was completed in 1979 and the right wing was completed in 1988.
The new sanctuary was built in 1992. In 1998 the sanctuary was doubled in size. In 2006 the church voted to build a multipurpose building with ten classrooms, one large youth area, nursery area, storage room, large kitchen area, and gym area. The new Outreach Center was opened in April 2007. Every classroom is used for Sunday School and AWANA Kids meet in the gym area on Wednesday evenings. We also started Wednesday evening meals in 2008. Upwards Basketball began in January 2009 and is a huge success.
God has truly blessed this work that He began in 1949.
